Mr. James Harold Gilbert Funeral services for Mr. James Harold Gilbert will be held at Cook Baptist Church in Ruston on Tuesday, August 15th at 2:00 PM, Rev. Mike Holloway officiating. Interment will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens in Ruston, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 15th at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Gilbert was born on June 7, 1920, in El Dorado, Arkansas and passed away at his home in Bossier City, LA, on August 13, 2006, following a lengthy illness. He was a resident of Ruston, LA, for over 40 years and was a longtime member of Cook Baptist Church. He received his BA degree in Business from Louisiana Tech University and his MA degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He was a veteran having served in the Army from 1941-44 and was very fond of the strong and lasting friendships he made during those years. After the war, he became a career musician and played with some of the leading bands of the day. His love for teaching led him to become a public school music teacher until 1966 when he was named Director of the Louisiana Tech Concert Association, the position he held until his retirement. Mr. Gilbert played in several area symphony orchestras including the Ruston Civic Symphony which he conducted for several years. He also taught private violin lessons to countless children throughout north Louisiana. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Ann Gilbert; his parents, Zula McCuin and James Rankin Gilbert; and his brother William R. Gilbert. He is survived by sons; Dr. Timothy Clark Gilbert and wife Karen of Bossier City, LA and Dr. Steven Todd Gilbert and wife Elizabeth of Almaty, Kazakhstan; grandchildren, Anisa Paige Gilbert McCarthy of Baton Rouge, LA, Sarah Elizabeth Gilbert, Anna Bethany Gilbert, James David Gilbert, and Abigail Joy Gilbert all of Almaty, Kazakstan; great granddaughter, Madisyn Paige Gilbert McCarthy of Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Raymond McCuin Gilbert and wife Peggy of Natchitoches, LA; sister-in-law, Barbara Gilbert of Smackover, AR; several nieces and nephews, and longtime family friend, Jerry Brown. Serving as pallbearers are James Brantley, Justin Brantley, Kenny Covington, Jimmy Gilbert, Steve Hedgepeth and Lee Kavanaugh. The Gilbert family extends thanks and gratitude to caregivers Beatrice Allen, Mary Fletcher, Ranisha Sepulvado, Betty Smith and St. Joseph Hospice of Shreveport.
