Graveside services for James Charles Tarbutton, age 77, of Ruston, LA will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 2 PM at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.James Charles Bud Tarbutton was born July 31, 1939 in Ruston. He was the son of James Samuel Tarbutton and Thelma Digby Tarbutton.He spent most of his life in Ruston. He attended A. E. Phillips Model School for elementary and graduated from Ruston High School in the class of 1957. He attended Louisiana Tech and Colorado School of Trades (Denver, CO) where he learned gun smithing. He returned to Ruston and opened Tarbutton Gun Smith. In 1964, he married Virginia Kay Goss. He moved to the Shreveport-Bossier City area in 1966. He worked in the wood products industry until 1986. He was the plant operations Team Leader at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport. In 1996, he returned to Ruston to live at Pine Ridge, his parents home.He had two sons, James Charles Tarbutton, Jr. and Stephen Louis Tarbutton. While his sons were growing up, he volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America. He received every award that could be given by Norwela Council, including the Silver Beaver. His volunteer training included Wood Badge, which he later taught.He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Charles Tarbutton, Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Samuel Eugene Tarbutton and Myrtie Dump Richardson Tarbutton; his maternal grandparents, Peter Paul Digby and Honor Odom Digby; and his aunt, Betty Tarbutton Notestine.He is survived by his son, Stephen Louis Tarbutton; grandchildren: Bryce Liam Tarbutton and Brittain Stephan Tarbutton; Kay Goss-Knotts, the mother of his children; his sister: Honor Jean Turner and husband, Robert; four nephews; four great nephews; and one great great niece.Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5 7 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.Online condolences may be made to the family @ www. kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
