Services to celebrate the life of Jackie “Jack” Leon Brantly, 85, of West Monroe will be held at 11:00 A M, Saturday, January 27, 2024 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Monroe with Pastor Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Jack was born November 7, 1938, in Homer, Louisiana, to Jessie and Julia McLeod Brantly. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps February 1957. While stationed at the Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach, CA, he met the love of his life, Nancy, and they married on July 2, 1960. Jack was discharged from the USMC in 1961 and he and Nancy moved to Monroe, LA. He briefly worked for the Monroe Police Department before reenlisting in the Marine Corps for an additional two years in October 1964. He was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, Charlie Company and landed in Vietnam in May 1965.He served a one-year tour in Vietnam and returned home and was discharged in 1966. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) and worked for the state of Louisiana as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. In addition, he served part time in the Louisiana Army National Guard (CW4) in the 528th Engineer Battalion.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jeffrey Brantly and wife DeAwna, Jennifer Brantly Thomson and husband Brian; grandchildren Jeffrey Brantly, Jr. and wife Kathryn, Elizabeth Shelton and husband Ben, James Brantly, Jessica Brantly; great granddaughters Frankie Leigh Shelton and Gentry Shelton. He is also survived by two nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Julia Brantly; his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Bernstein Brantly; his sisters, Gloria Brantly Garvin and Mickey Brantly Muckelrath.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Brantly, Jr., James Brantly, Ben Shelton, Philip Arthur (Col), Buddy McGough (SFC), and QL Johnson (MSG).
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Hall (CW4), Warren Ezell (SFC) and James Dugdale (CW4).
The family would like to thank the staff at Gardens of Somerset and St. Joseph Hospice for their compassionate care of Jack. We would also like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Faye and Ramona, for their extraordinary care and kindness.
