Jack Longino Smith, 89, of Monroe, Louisiana passed away peacefully in his home December 8, 2020 surrounded by his family.
Jack was born in Fairhope, Alabama on February 21, 1931 and grew up in Silver Creek, Mississippi before moving to West Monroe where he attended Ouachita High School. Jack also attended Louisiana Tech University where he was a Disc Jockey for KNOE radio. While at Tech he was an original member of the Debonnaire’s and helped organize a reunion concert which took place annually. After attending Tech, he was employed by Troy and Nichols and eventually started his own residential real estate business, Jack L Smith & Co. Later Jack specialized in commercial development and built numerous shopping centers.
Dad was one of the original members of the “Pot Luck” Hunting Club where he was known as the Chief Chef. We will cherish his appreciation and love of nature, his teaching us to water ski on the Ouachita River, and our annual RV trips to the Rocky Mountains and the Buffalo River where we enjoyed canoe trips and hiking with Dad. His love for food, wine and music will always remain in our hearts.
Jack is preceded in death by his former wife, Alice Perry Smith; his sister Jean Howard; and his daughter-in-law, Pamela Medak Smith. He is survived by his 4 children, David Perry Smith and his wife Debbie, Jack Longino Smith and his wife Katie, Frances S. Ward, and Amy S. Yates and her husband Mark; 7 grandchildren, Perry M. Smith and his wife Tyler, Alice Marie S. Blanchard and her husband Clay, Grayson M. Ward, Taylor H. Ward, Zach Smith, Brooke Lauve and Olivia Lauve; 3 great-grandchildren, Emory Adele, Nell Marie, and Sadie Lea; 2 sisters, Mary Sue Chambers, and Camille Peterson and her husband Al; one brother, Paul Smith and his wife Virginia; sister in law, Jo Ann Perry; and his special friend and caretaker Mechelle Taylor.
Per Jack’s request, a private family ceremony will be held in the Valley of Ponca on the Buffalo River, a place that brings back many fond memories.
