Funeral services for Jack Gates, 91, of the Crossroads Community will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. at Crossroads Baptist Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. Andy Johnson. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. till time of service at the church. Interment will follow in Crossroads Cemetery under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville. Jack was born on March 5, 1926 in Union Parish, and passed away on September 6, 2017. He was a proud U.S. Marine serving with the 5th Marine Division in WWII. Jack was retired from Riverwood, now Graphic Packaging, after 42 years of service. He could be seen daily riding his John Deere lawn mower whether he was mowing or not. He loved to fish, hunt and work in his garden.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Elizabeth Gates, step-mother, Verda Gates; sister Evelyn Tatum; brothers Ira, Dick, Coot, and Raymond Gates.Survivors include his loving wife of seventy years, Mary Jo Nolan Gates, daughter, Debbie Gates Dickerson and husband Malcolm; son Dusty Gates and wife Camille; grandchildren; Kristy Smith, Kelley Gates, Morgan Lowery, and husband Kyle; and Stacie Watts and husband Joe; six great-grandchildren, Justin Stripling, Kassie Miller, Sadie and Ella Lowery, Clay, Caleb and Carson Watts; four great-great grandchildren; brother James Gates, sisters Shirly Ganey Moncrief and Mary Lou Bollier and husband Cecil, sister-in-laws, Lila Simpson, Betty Gates and Pat Jordan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
