Funeral services for Jack E. Williams, age 96, of Baytown, TX will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 17, 2023, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston, LA. Rev. Randy Ray will officiate the service. Interment will be in St. Rest Cemetery in Dubach, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.
Jack was born November 8, 1926, in Micawber, OK to Raymond and Lizzie Williams and passed away July 12, 2023, at St. James House in Baytown, TX. Jack moved to Baytown when he was 8 years old and grew up on Pruett Street. He attended Anson Jones Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, class of 1946.
Jack played various sports and was part of the great 1940’s football team. After high school Jack joined the U.S. Army (Battery B 15th Field Artillery, 2nd Infantry Division). He was part of the WWII greatest generation.
After his military service Jack returned to Baytown and began his career at Humble Oil and Refining Co., now ExxonMobil. He worked at the refinery for almost 47 years as a carpenter, pipefitter, mechanical craftsman, and a firefighter (Team 12). Jack was the last living original firefighter from when the teams were formed in 1962. Jack missed only part of one workday in his refinery career. He received many honors and awards for his attendance.
Jack married Peggy Weir on June 3, 1950. They were married for 54 years until Peggy’s death and had one daughter, Cynthia Anne. He enjoyed all kinds of sports (especially college football), traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad, history, geography and knowing all kinds of facts by reading the World Almanac.
Jack was a Christian, loved his family, modest kind, caring, patient and was very patriotic, and loved his country. He was truly a fine man and will be greatly missed. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and citizen.
His family would like to thank Dr. Chris Hays and his staff for many years of good care. Also, a special thank you to Ray Mullins and Glen Reilly for their many visits, friendships, and concerns.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Williams of Baytown, TX; family and friends including the Hood’s, Weir’s, Canterbury’s, and Woodard’s of Lincoln Parish.
