Mr. J. Ross Johnston Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA Funeral services for Mr. J. Ross Johnston will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 18, 2007 at New Chapel Baptist Church in West Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Dupree. Interment will follow at New Chapel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. J. Ross Johnston, 68, went to meet the Lord on March 15, 2007. He was born on July 30, 1938 in Choudrant, LA. He was a resident of West Monroe. He served as a credit manager for Montgomery Ward before retiring with 29 years of service as Senior Vice President with Central Bank. After retiring, he continued his banking career with Caldwell Bank & Trust Company in Columbia and Louisiana Independent Bankers Association. He was active for many years in a number of civic and professional associations, including the Louisiana Bankers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, and a volunteer officer for the Monroe Police Department. He also served as President of the Board at Ridgedale Academy. Ross was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church in West Monroe. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, James Scott and Lillie Lois Couch Johnston and a brother, William Johnston. Survivors are his wife of 43 years, Brenda Walker Johnston; sons, Captain Scott N. Johnston and wife Lisa of Minden, LA, Captain Aaron Johnston and wife Victoria of Fort Gordon, GA; brother, Bobby Johnston and wife Florence of Shreveport, LA; sister, Linda and husband Reese Hood of Minden, LA; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Charles Ford of Pineville, LA; numerous nephews and nieces. After his retirement, Ross enjoyed working and farming his land in Downsville. His true joy was to nurture and grow peas which he gave away to family and friends. Pallbearers will be Donald J. Finley, Gary Hamilton, Bernard Heflin, Ken Pettitt, Barney Lambert and Harper McKay. Honorary pallbearers will be the men and women of the Downsville graduating Class of 1956. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe and 1:00P.M. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the New Chapel Hill Building Fund, where he was currently serving on the building committee.
