Mr. J. Ross Johnston Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA Funeral services for Mr. J. Ross Johnston will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 18, 2007 at New Chapel Baptist Church in West Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Dupree. Interment will follow at New Chapel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. J. Ross Johnston, 68, went to meet the Lord on March 15, 2007. He was born on July 30, 1938 in Choudrant, LA. He was a resident of West Monroe. He served as a credit manager for Montgomery Ward before retiring with 29 years of service as Senior Vice President with Central Bank. After retiring, he continued his banking career with Caldwell Bank & Trust Company in Columbia and Louisiana Independent Bankers Association. He was active for many years in a number of civic and professional associations, including the Louisiana Bankers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, and a volunteer officer for the Monroe Police Department. He also served as President of the Board at Ridgedale Academy. Ross was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church in West Monroe. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, James Scott and Lillie Lois Couch Johnston and a brother, William Johnston. Survivors are his wife of 43 years, Brenda Walker Johnston; sons, Captain Scott N. Johnston and wife Lisa of Minden, LA, Captain Aaron Johnston and wife Victoria of Fort Gordon, GA; brother, Bobby Johnston and wife Florence of Shreveport, LA; sister, Linda and husband Reese Hood of Minden, LA; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Charles Ford of Pineville, LA; numerous nephews and nieces. After his retirement, Ross enjoyed working and farming his land in Downsville. His true joy was to nurture and grow peas which he gave away to family and friends. Pallbearers will be Donald J. Finley, Gary Hamilton, Bernard Heflin, Ken Pettitt, Barney Lambert and Harper McKay. Honorary pallbearers will be the men and women of the Downsville graduating Class of 1956. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe and 1:00P.M. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the New Chapel Hill Building Fund, where he was currently serving on the building committee.

Brenda, When I think of Ross, he always had a huge smile on his face! Our prayers are with you, Scott and Aaron.

Brenda I will keep you and the boys in my prayers. I loved Ross like a brother and you know that. You know that I will miss my daily phone calls and my visits. He was a friend for a lifetime. Love Julia

My deepest sympathies to the Johnston Family. I only heard about Mr Ross passing when I stopped by to see Keith today. I remember how nice Ross & Brenda were when I came over to see Aaron when we were young. Fond memories of very fine people indeed. May peace be with you all.

Scott and Lisa, I am sorry for your loss and I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you. I hope all is going well for you both. I miss our days at MHS! You all are in my prayers.

I was so sorry to read of Ross' death. I met and became friendly with Ross when I worked in Lake Charles for Calcasieu Marine National Bank and Ross serviced our Credit Card Account. Ross was always a refreshing breath of fresh air when he entered the room. His smile, demeanor, wit, and sincerity made everyone comfortable and happy for the time that they were going to spend in his presence. And he was so very competent in his job. No matter the problem, Ross could and would resolve it to everyone's satisfaction. I'm sorry that I didn't get to spend more time with him but treasure the time that I did have with him. I am so very saddened to hear of your loss. I am originally from Jonesville, LA. I have so many great memories of Brenda's parents. My parents were Roy and Ruby Carpenter.

Ross was a wonderful supportive father-in-law to our daughter Victoria and what fun we had with him at her and Aaron's wedding.

Brenda, Aaron and Scott, I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed talking to Ross and watching him with the donkeys or whatever type of critters they were. We've shared our country road with Ross & Brenda for over thirty years now. We're really going to miss seeing Ross's truck going down so slowly looking for deer, his hand alway coming out the window for a friendly wave, and stopping for an occasional chat. Ross was a great man to work with! He always took the time to listen to what you wanted to talk about. He will be missed by many.

I have many memories of Ross. Mostly of him taking his lunch hour and coming to my store"Hunt&Whitaker"to visit me. He was always a gentleman. A very kind person. Never a bad word about anyone. Wish I could be there to attend his service. I am sure it will be packed. This is a loss for the family, but a gain for the Glory of God. My thoughts and condolences to all of his family. I've known Ross for many years. He is one of the "good guys" and I will always remember the laughs, the sports competition, and the good conversations we shared. We meet so many people on life's journey but very few do we remember forever. J. Ross Johnston is one of those few. Condolences to his family and friends and may God Bless.

Ross was a gentle giant and a God fearing man. He was always at the ready to help myself and the rest of the greeters at the front entrance of the sanctuary on Sundays. Ross was always the money expert we went to in our finance committee meetings. I myself will always miss his firm handshake and his gentle smile. God has taken home a good a good man and a faithful servant.

We had not known Ross very long but will remember him for his service to the church and our Lord. Our prayers are with you, his dear family.
