YES Iris Adell Brasher Armstrong of Farmerville, La., was born on October 17, 1914, to William H. and Adell “Dellie” Nash Brasher of Sadie, La. She was called to her heavenly reward on December 13, 2010 after 96 blessed years of life on this earth. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Farmerville, followed by interment at Farmerville City Cemetery. Officiating at the services will be Reverend David Martin and Reverend Kurt Auger. Iris was married to W. Bennett “Shorty” Armstrong and had one son, Larry Bennett Armstrong. She lived nearly all her adult life in Farmerville, where she acquired many life-long friends. She and Larry enjoyed entertaining in their home over the years. Iris also had a love of travel, and her journeys took her throughout the United States, China, and Europe. Iris was a graduate of Marion High School and of Louisiana Tech University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree. She earned a Master's degree in education from Northwestern University at Natchitoches. Iris taught and retired from Farmerville Elementary in Union Parish after 38 years of teaching and loving fourth grade students. She always maintained that every student had his or her own value and is remembered by each of them for her compassion and care in teaching. She will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and loved ones for her gentle kindness, wisdom, soft spoken ways, and lovingly conveyed discipline. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and sister, Eula Brasher Nolan. She is survived by nieces BB Hampton of Waskom, Tx., Katie Ann McKinnie and husband Jon of Galveston, Tx., Mary Miller of Farmerville, La., Barbara Neil Nolan and husband B.J. of Farmerville, La., nephews L.J. Laster and wife Tommie, Aubrey Laster and wife Myrtis, all of Farmerville, La., and William Laster and wife Carolyn of Marion, La., as well as three generations of great nieces and nephews and many “family of the heart” friends she loved as relatives. Pallbearers will be Lee Royce Alford, Don Gates, John Steven Preaus, Gary Albritton, Fred Stewart, and Jon Yelton, former fourth grade students and close friends of Mrs. Armstrong. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Farmerville.
