Irene Larance ColvinKilpatrick Funeral HomeRuston, LA Funeral services for Irene Colvin will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Dubach, LA. Dr. Clyde Sanchez will officiate with burial to follow at the Colvin Memorial Cemetery in Unionville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Irene was born on January 20, 1914 in Hilly, LA to James and Carrie Larance and went to her Heavenly Home on July 9, 2010. Irene was the first daughter and second child of the Larance children. At the age of 14, her Mother died and she assumed the role of mother to her siblings, Clint, Delton, Buddy, Ophelia, Mary, Moll Ruth, Nettie, and Lula. She married B .H. Colvin in 1937 and they had 3 children: Clayton, Gerry, and Beverly. Her life was a good one but sometimes very hard. Never complaining she worked side by side in the fields with her husband until he became disabled. She then became the family provider as a merchant in a small country grocery store. Through the years of raising children and hard work, she developed a love of gardening and quilting. She completed her last hand made quilt at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents: James and Carrie Larance; husband: B.H. Colvin; son: Clayton Colvin; brothers: Clint, Delton, and Buddy Larance; sisters: Ophelia Goodwin, Molly Ruth Morrow, and Mary Pilgreen. She is survived by daughters: Gerry Long and husband Gary of Bastrop and Beverly Cambre and husband Chuck of West Monroe; sisters: Nettie Hodges and Lula Amonett; grandchildren: Jeff Long, David Long, Dan Long, Melissa Cambre Wilkes, Charlie Cambre, Caryn Green, TerryWatson, and Chuck Colvin; twelve great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law. The family would like to thank Ruston Nursing and Rehab in Ruston for the loving care our Mother/Ganmother/Sister was given during her 5 years there. Also, a very special thank you to Mom’s nurse, Amanda Fraley. You have been amazing and we will never forget you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
