Imogene “Gene” Head Johnston, 92, passed away on March 16, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. A funeral service honoring her life will follow at 11:00 a.m., with W.C. “Dub” Hatten officiating the service. Gene will be laid to rest at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens in West Monroe following the service.
Gene was born on April 23, 1931, in West Monroe, Louisiana, to Otis and Pearl Head. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and married Glynn Johnston in 1948. Together they had three children. She took great pride in being a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Gene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Glynn Johnston; their three children, Michael Johnston, Terry Johnston, and Janet Johnston Easterling; her first grandchild, Jason Easterling. Her family finds comfort in the joyous reunion she had with them.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Rhonda Johnston; daughter-in-law, Debbie Bondra, her grandchildren, Michael Johnston, II (Ashley), Ricky Brown (Megan), Tara Johnston Mahaffey (Chad), Heather Brown, Shelley Johnston Hendrix (Chad), Tim Johnston (Emmy), and Holly Johnston Reigle (Aaron), 18 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her loyal friend Sharon Morgan.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons Tim Johnston, Michael Johnston, II, and Ricky Brown, her grandsons-in-law Chad Hendrix and Chad Mahaffey, and her great-grandsons Drew Johnston, Lake Hendrix, and Tripp Johnston.
The family appreciates the compassionate care she received at Savannah Grand Assisted Living and with Elara Caring Hospice.
