Mrs. Ila May Hammons Young Gibson went home to be with her Heavenly Father November 8, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., November 11, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Ruston. Officiating the service will be Dr. Andrew Johnson, assisted by Dr. Bruce Young. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Gibson was born to Luther and Cora Hammons on June 22, 1906 and faithfully served her Lord and Savior for 104 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, five younger siblings, Cecil Hammons, Arva Hammons Leachman, Gordon Hammons, Ira Lee Hammons and Ottis Hammons. She was also preceded by two husbands, James Madderson Young, Sr., husband of five years and Joseph Clyde Gibson, husband of fifty-five years. She is survived by three children; Dr. James M. Young, Jr. and wife June of Dubach, LA; Harry Gibson and wife, Pam, of Ketchikan, AK; Joyce Gibson Elmore and husband, Frank of Ruston, LA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Dr. Bruce Young and wife, Becky, of Milton, Fl; Dr. Mark Young and wife, Chloe, of Chapel Hill, NC; Mrs. Kay Lueg and husband, Gene, of Dubach, LA; Dr. Jo Blevins and husband, Dr. Carter Blevins, of Somerset, KY; Mrs. Brenda Jorgens and husband, Troy, of Ketchikan, AK; Mrs. Jolene Becke and husband, Steven, of Anchorage, AK; Ms. Angela Morris, of Temple, TX; Mrs. April Graves and husband, James, of Choudrant, LA; Brian Warren and wife, Sarah, of Choudrant, LA; twenty-two great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Gibson graduated from Tyler Commercial College in 1930 and enjoyed a varied and satisfying business career until her retirement in 1971. “Miss Ila” was a loyal member of First Baptist Church in Ruston where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in WMU and KIT. She loved her Lord and showed that love every day of her life with everyone that she met. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Homemakers Club. After her retirement, she spent many years doing volunteer work at Lincoln General Hospital as a Pink Lady. One of her delights was participating in the Senior Olympics in Monroe where she won twenty gold medals over several years. Pallbearers will be; Frank Elmore, Brian Warren, Devin Skipper, Nathan Young, Dr. Mark Young and Gene Lueg. Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or to the First Baptist Church of Ruston. Visitation will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 5:00 P.M. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Alpine Guest Care Center, Dr. Martina Tamakloe, Dr. Billy Smith and Professional Hospice Care for their loving care.
