Hilda Jean Burns (Mopsy) to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their friends), 92, passed away on March 1, 2024, with her daughter, Nancy, and niece, Shirley, at her bedside. She was ready to be reunited with her husband, John and to finally see her savior, Jesus face to face. As her family, we rejoice that she is whole and healthy again but we are grieved at her absence here on earth.
Hilda was born on January 12, 1932, in West Monroe, Louisiana. She married the great love of her life, John Burns, her college sweetheart, on January 26, 1951. She paused her education to start a family and then went back to college while her children were still young, earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Louisiana Tech University. Years later she returned to school to earn her Master’s in Counseling.
Hilda was a dedicated elementary, high schoolteacher and counselor for over 30 years. She touched the lives of many students and colleagues. She loved her job and cared well for the students she served. Hilda and John were charter members of Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy and served in various ministries. Hilda’s favorite was serving at the welcome desk greeting new and old friends at church each week.
