(formerly West Monroe, Louisiana), will be Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm in Feazel Chapel at First West Church in West Monroe, Louisiana. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. Services are under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Wayne transitioned to his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He passed peacefully at home from complications of Alzheimer’s. He was born on March 1, 1938, in Bernice, Louisiana to Beatrice “Pat” Heard Tubbs and Luther Hammons Tubbs.
He was married to Gloria Jean Wasson in 1958. They were married for 66 years at the time of his death. Wayne attended school in Bernice, Louisiana where he graduated from high school in 1956. After graduation, he went to college at Louisiana Tech University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology in 1959 and his Master of Science in Zoology in 1969. After receiving his first degree, he began his career in El Dorado, Arkansas at the Associated Pathologist Laboratory where he quickly worked his way up to be the Chief Medical Technologist and managed the lab for Dr. Kenneth Duzan for 33 years. After leaving El Dorado in 1994, they moved to Clarksdale, Mississippi, where he worked for Infolab. In 1996 they moved to West Monroe, Louisiana where he finished his career doing marketing for Bayou Laboratory. His colleagues through the years thought highly of him. They said things about him such as, “he was the consummate professional,” “his interaction with people was in sincerity, kindness and integrity,” “his care for our clients was unsurpassed,” “he was a dedicated member of the team and a devoted friend,” “he was a passionate leader,” “Wayne helped shape me into the person I am today and helped me learn how to use God as the true guiding light – even at work.” He loved others well and they loved him well in return.
Wayne was a churchman to his core. He loved the Lord and his church, and he served his church wherever they lived. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado, Arkansas, then First West in West Monroe, Louisiana before moving to Springdale, Arkansas where he was a member at Cross Church in Springdale. For years, he and Gloria worked with young married adults and were always hosting them in their home. They became like adoptive parents to many of them. They also loved to do mission work with dear friends. They worked with Native American Indians in New Mexico, did Maritime Ministry in New Orleans, Louisiana, and medical missions in Belize, Brazil and Mexico.
Wayne’s favorite pastime was baseball. He loved playing semi-pro baseball in his younger years and he loved watching his grandson, Adam play for ULM. He loved to hunt. He also enjoyed keeping his yard in immaculate shape as if it was going to be on the cover of a magazine every month.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronald Tubbs and Glynn Tubbs.
Survivors include his wife Gloria Jean Tubbs; sons, Toby Tubbs (Linda), Tony Tubbs (Barbara); daughter, Terri Puckett (Larry); grandchildren, Seth Hallberg (Katie), Lauren Tubbs, Leslie Cain (Anthony), Micah Puckett (Kelsey), Betsy Woloszyn (Scott “Bo”), Rachel Wiley (Bruce), Emily Rosen (Michael Dibbs), Adam Tubbs; great grandchildren, Corbyn Hallberg, Katelyn Hallberg, Carsyn Hallberg, Aidan Cain, Riley Jo Puckett, Jordan Woloszyn, and Isabella Woloszyn.
