H. L. Henry, Jr. RUSTON, LA-Funeral services for H. L. Henry, Jr., 94, of Ruston, LA will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, on December 31st, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Henry died at Flagler Hospital, St Augustine, FL on December 26. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Eva Grissom Henry, his parents Herman and Louannie Henry, his daughter Krista Ann Vernon, his brothers Dallas and Roger, and his sisters Louise Walker, Elizabeth Conley and Frances Ruth Scray. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Sybil Howard Henry. He is survived by his son Chip and wife Michal, brothers Clay and wife Lois, J. Hugh and wife Pat, grandchildren Jennifer Vernon-Graybill and wife Lori, Jamie Vernon and wife Shannon, Ellen Vernon Ruffner and husband Tom, Rebekah Henry Pace and husband Jeremy, Benjamin Henry and wife Katie, and great grandsons William Vernon, Wesley Vernon, Henry Pace and Giacomo Ruffner. He was a 1940 graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Mechanical-Electrical Engineering. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, and additional graduate credits from the University of Arkansas. He was a Life Member of the American Society of Engineering Education, the Louisiana Engineering Society, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He served for ten years on the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He was a charter member of the Louisiana Tech Engineering and Science Foundation, and a Life Member of its Board of Directors. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi. He was employed at Illinois Institute of Technology from 1940 to 1946. He was on the faculty at Louisiana Tech from 1946 to 1951 and from 1955 to 1984. From 1951 to 1955 he was employed as a construction engineer and project engineer at Dow Chemical Co. The major part of his career was spent at Louisiana Tech in the College of Engineering. He developed the curriculum in Industrial Engineering and the curriculum in Computer Science. He retired in 1984 as Associate Dean of Engineering. Mr. Henry's activities in the United Methodist Church included Sunday School teaching, and choir at Woodlawn Methodist Church in Chicago. He also served on a city-wide Methodist Council of Young Adults in Chicago. At First Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas he taught Sunday School and was a senior adviser in the youth program. At Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston he taught Sunday School, sang in the Chancel Choir, and served on several committees and commissions. At Louisiana Tech Wesley Foundation he served on the administrative board for several years. His professional activities and honors were many. He was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors and served for ten years. This assignment included working on the National Council of Engineering Examiners in composing engineering problems for the beginning examination and the professional examination for Mechanical Engineers. In 1988 he was named, along with seven other Tech faculty members, to Who's Who in Engineering in America. In 1983 he was named to the Tower Medallion Award at Louisiana Tech. In 2006 the Louisiana Tech Engineering and Science Foundation Board established the H. L. Henry Recognition Fund for the purpose of generating scholarship funds for Computer Science students. He was named by the Mechanical Engineering Department at Tech as an Outstanding Graduate of the department. He was named by the Louisiana Engineering Society LES for the Leo Odom Award for Distinguished Service to the engineering professional members of LES. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed by the Engineering and Science Foundation Fund, College of Engineering and Science, Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, LA, Trinity United Methodist Church, Ruston, LA and the Krista Henry Vernon Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS.
