Gwendolyn Sue Porter, 86, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023 in Farmerville, Louisiana.
Sue was born in Ruston, Louisiana to Glay and Estelle Hammons on June 21, 1937. After graduating from high school, Sue attended Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) where she met Don Murphy. The two were later married and had four children; Wayne, Mike, Pam, and Joel.
Sue worked in the insurance business for many years and moved to Winnsboro to manage an agency. While there, she met Glynn Porter and they were later married. Sue returned to college and completed a degree in education that allowed her to realize a dream of teaching. She taught home economics and gifted students during her many years in education.
Sue enjoyed many hobbies during her life. She truly loved singing and sang in church choirs as well as the singing group Hand in Hand that performed at area churches. She was an avid quilter as well as a seamstress. Sue liked to garden and had many flowers around her homes throughout the years. She also loved dogs including her German Shepard Coco (named after Coco Chanel), her Yorkies JJ and Cricket, and her adopted dog Benji.
Sue was predeceased by her parents Glay and Estelle Hammons, her husband’s Don Murphy and Glynn Porter, her sister Linda Morris, and her brother Jerry Hammons. She is survived by her sister Myrtis Miller, her children Wayne Murphy (Laurie), Mike Murphy (Linda), Pam Simpson, and Joel Murphy (Grace) as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ogden Cemetery near Winnsboro, Louisiana.
