Glen Franklin Carroll
May the Most Holy God bless you this day, and remember, in life, if you can dream it, you can achieve it.
Glen Franklin Carroll was born on June 17, 1935 and went to meet his Savior one day shy of his 87th birthday on June 16, 2022. Glen was born in Holly Ridge, one of 13 children of Arthur Cleveland Carroll, Sr. and Lela Katie Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his 12 siblings – McBride, Orel, A.C., Jr., Oliver, Jody, Dennis, Melvin, Ethel, Alice, Josephine, Erline, and Elvie. He was also preceded by two wives, Sarah Ann Carroll, and Lillian Lucille Carroll.
Known by many loving names, Honey, Daddy, Pepaw, Peeps, Glen is survived by his wife Illene Annette Carroll, seven children – Martie Graham (husband Aubrey), Pam Hallman (husband Ramsey), Vicki Larson (husband Wayne), Chris Adkins (wife Edith), Karla Adkins-Rogers (husband Wendell), Alan Carroll (wife Amy), and Hope Carroll – an honorary daughter, Renee Avant (husband Jimmy), sixteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
When young, Glen was an avid baseball player and enjoyed hunting and fishing. After attending Northeast Louisiana State College and receiving his degree in Agriculture, Glen joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean War and was discharged from the Marines with Honors. He was always very proud of being “One of the Few, the Proud, the Brave.” Oorah!!! After the Marines, he began a career as a builder.
In his later years, Glen enjoyed traveling in his travel trailer throughout the United States, visiting national parks and campgrounds. He was always looking for a good horseshoe game challenge, which he always won. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, hiking, looking for arrowheads, panning for gold, and visiting gaming facilities. Pepaw could put down a piece of chocolate cake or a fried apple pie in less than a minute. He had a great interest in UFO’s, having had a close encounter along with Lillian years ago. Peeps never met a stranger, was witty and outgoing, and, as a result of his military experience, always had a great war story to share with anyone who would listen.
Glen loved Christ and loved his family, always thanking God for everything He provided. Services will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 at Evergreen Baptist Church, 1380 Evergreen Road, Bernice, LA 71222, where he was a long-time member. Visitation is from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM, with interment at the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville, LA.
Pallbearers will be Josh Adkins, Phillip Reeves, Dallas Albritton, Tony Gale, Jimmy Cain, and Adam Chelette. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Avant, Mike Carroll, Jake Carroll, and Matt Albritton.
