Funeral services for Gerald Morehead, 83, of West Monroe are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home Chapel in West Monroe with Rev. Bill Strawbridge, Rev. Johnny Hankins, and Rev. Bo Horne officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Eros. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Mr. Morehead was born August 26, 1929 and, following a lengthy illness, passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and children Thursday, August 1, 2013. He served in the United States Navy Seabees during the Korean War and pursued a construction career following his discharge. He was a charter member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason and past Master of the Cadeville Lodge. He was also a former member of Scottish Rite. Gerald was an avid reader and loved everything outdoors – hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and traveling with his wife and friends, especially in the western US. Mr. Morehead was preceded in death by his parents, “Pat” and Ruby Morehead, and his sister, Mardell Thompson. He is survived by his spouse, Beverly; two daughters, Cheryl Bell and husband Bill, and Pam Hankins and husband Johnny; son Scotty and wife Lynette; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Tommy and Jeffrey Morehead; three step grandchildren, Roxie Montalvan, Jon and Matt Hankins; two step great grandchildren, Case and Drew Hankins; sister Alda Fuller and husband Billy; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, Benjamin and Jeffrey Morehead, Jon and Matt Hankins, and Bruce and Kevin Fuller. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Morehead, and Stanley and Dale Thompson. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nursing staff at Glenwood and Cornerstone Hospitals, Drs. Ron and Don Hammett, Dr. Virginia Gonzales, and St. Joseph's Hospice.
