Funeral services for Gerald Hodnett, 81, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Luna Assembly of God in West Monroe with Rev. Joel Brackett officiating. Interment will follow at Luna Assembly of God Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Gerald was born into this world on April 25, 1942 and entered eternal rest in heaven on January 18, 2024. He found salvation at a revival at Luna 50 years ago and went on to serve as a pastor at three churches in North Louisiana, guiding countless souls to Christ. A passionate lover of horses, he dedicated several hours each day to reading his Bible. His absence on Sunday mornings at Luna Assembly will be deeply felt, as will the comforting sound of his amens during the sermon. In recent years, his dearest companion was his beloved dog, Happy.
Gerald is preceded in death by his dad, Vernon Hodnett and loving mother, Susie Hodnett; sister Christine Benson and brother Alton Hodnett; mother-in-law, Fannie Daniel and sisters-in-law Carolyn Hodnett and Betty Benton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris; five sons, Vince Hodnett (Katina), Joey Hodnett (Pam), Lance Hodnett (Christy), Jason Hodnett (Haylie), and Justin Hodnett; one sister, Pauline Hall, and one brother, Vyron Hodnett. Eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Hodnett, Jason Hodnett, Joey Hodnett, Justin Hodnett, Peyton Hodnett, and Vince Hodnett.
Leslie Brock, Lance Hodnett, Danny Johnson, and Milton McQuillin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the 5th floor at St. Francis, Dr. Oglesby with the Gastro Clinic, Dr. Bart Lyles, and Passages Hospice for their care of Gerald during his brief illness. We would also like to send a special thank you to Mrs. Sherry Gooden and the family members who ensured Gerald’s last days were comfortable and peaceful.
