Genevieve Dorothy McVeigh Gilliland (Genny), a long-time resident of the West Monroe, Louisiana area, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday the 11th of November in the comfort of her own home at the spry age of 98.Born on August 2, 1921 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Genny later relocated to West Monroe, Louisiana with her husband, James W. Gilliland where they started a family and thrived in the community. Genny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Genny worked and cared for the people of Ouachita Parish for many years in her husband dental practice in West Monroe up until his passing in 1979.Genevieve loved her family and friends, good food and socializing, and of course traveling the country and the world as time permitted. She was loved by all and had a wonderful personality and smile that could light up a room.She is preceded in death by many family members and friends including her husband, James W. Gilliland and her daughter-in-law, Sarah Johnston Gilliland. She is survived by her daughter, Gaye Ann Gilliland Bright and her son, James Walter Gilliland, Jr. Additional survivors include 5 grandchildren Barbara Gilliland Anderson, Garry Bright, Jay Gilliland, Jennifer Bright McIntosh and James Gilliland III, all of whom live in either Virginia or Texas. There are numerous other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends who all survive her in various states and will miss the joy of her company.Pallbearers will be Colton Beeson, Rylan Beeson, Garrison Bright, Garry Bright, Kaleb Bright, James Gilliland III, Jay Gilliland, and Kevin McIntosh.The Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA has been entrusted with Genny service arrangements. The services will be held there on Sunday, November 17, 2019 with visitation at 11:00am and the actual service at 12:00pm.Psalm 73:26
