Frances Suzanne Saunder Carter was known by all as “Sue”, except her grandchildren who knew her as “Grandmommy”, her proudest title. Sue was born on November 15, 1943. After a brief struggle with complications from a fall, she passed peacefully on February 7, 2023.
Sue was a businesswoman and entrepreneur who worked tirelessly for many years in business with her husband, as well as owning Cooper’s Young Years in West Monroe for quite some time. She was an amazing mother, a mother-in-law that seemed more like a best friend to her sons’ wives, an endlessly giving grandmother, and a person who was kind and loved by everyone she met. Sue enjoyed traveling, animals, politics, and most of all spending time with and giving herself to her family. She was an endless source of support and love and never said no to someone who needed her. Sue was preceded in death by her father James Saunders, her mother Marianne Saunders, her brother Philip Saunders and her beloved husband of 36 years, Roland Carter.
Sue is survived by her son, James Waugh of New Braunfels, Texas, her son, Ro and his wife, Brandi Carter of McKinney, Texas, and her son, Nick Waugh and his wife, Leanne of Jackson, Alabama. Sue also has a step son, Howard Carter of West Monroe. Sue has 5 grandchildren, Nicholas Waugh, Caroline Waugh Cox, Thomas Carter, Ethan Carter, and Jacob Carter, and bonus granddaughter, Katie Randle. Additionally, she was blessed with 3 step grandchildren, Alise Carter, Cole Carter, and Jack Carter and 5 great grandchildren, Lilly and Laine Chunn Waugh, Quinn Waugh, Gideon Cox, and Levi Carter. Last, her sweet dog Buddy, who she loved dearly, remains.
