The funeral service for Frances Crider Brown was at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Mausoleum in Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens. Frances was a 1945 graduate of Neville High School, played oboe in the band, and was a member of the homecoming court. She spent many years in the legal profession, working as a legal secretary or paralegal for several old established Monroe law firms. She eventually went to work for Olinkraft Corporation, and retired from Manville Corporation as an administrative assistant to the Engineering Department. Frances loved her coworkers at Manville, and was blessed to have been the only female working in a department of very kind, upstanding gentlemen. After retirement, Frances became very active in home Bible studies, hosting weekly studies in her house. She had been a member of First Assembly of God in West Monroe for many years, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir.Mrs. Brown was an excellent cook and passed the love of cooking along to her children and grandchildren. She was also very musically talented, playing several instruments, and possessed a beautiful voice. Her children also inherited her musical talents and love and appreciation of all types of music. She spent countless hours creating beautiful needlework, from crocheting to embroidering to knitting, and sewing.Mrs. Brown had a gift for making a comfortable home from the most humble circumstances, planting flowers and gardens all around her yard and filling the house with wonderful food and music. She was a very intelligent and articulate person, appreciated the arts, music, and good literature, and possessed what she referred to as a rather warped sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Brown Griggs; sister, Elizabeth Crider Deville Bell Carlson; niece, Jane Deville Chapman. She is survived by her son, Earl D. Brown, Jr. Sonny; daughter, Lisa Brown Martin and husband Ricky; grandchildren, Darren Griggs and Kathy Rayborn, Laralee Herron, and McKinley Herron, all of West Monroe; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie Dandridge and Carrie Griggs, both of West Monroe, and Tristan Griggs of Shreveport.
