A service celebrating the life of Faye Owens Haddox will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, December 16, 2023, at North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, LA in the West Hall.  Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until service time at the church.  Interment will follow immediately afterwards at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.

Faye was born in West Monroe, LA on December 7, 1937, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 8, 2023 at her residence. She graduated from West Monroe High School in 1956 and from Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) in 1959 where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in three years with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. After dating the love of her life, Jim Haddox, throughout high school and college, they married on November 25, 1959. She taught fourth grade at Lakeshore Elementary School for two years before moving to Starkville, MS while Jim attended graduate school at Mississippi State University.  She worked as an inter-library loan librarian during those years. After his graduation, they moved to Wichita Falls, TX where he worked as an exploration geologist. Their two daughters, Lori and Lana, were born there. They moved to Beaumont, TX for a short while before settling back in West Monroe, LA where Jim worked at Northeast Louisiana University as Dean of Men’s Housing while Faye stayed at home to raise their two daughters. During those years, she was Room Mother and participated in PTA, Brownies, Girl Scouts, as well as every activity involving the girls. She eventually helped Jim start his own business as an independent petroleum geologist and was his office manager, continuing to run the business for about ten years after Jim passed away suddenly in 2001.

Faye excelled in academics, enjoyed playing the piano for her church, teaching Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School for many years. She took great pride in   sewing and was a wonderful seamstress.  She delighted in designing and making her two girls’ dresses and clothes until they went to college. In addition, she had a passion for gardening and cooking, and together with Jim, they enjoyed entertaining and hosting cookouts. She, also, loved traveling with family and friends and experienced many fun adventures throughout the years. Other organizations she participated in were Highland Park Garden Club, Monroe Garden Club, PEO Chapter V, Black Hat Society and others.

As the most supportive grandmother, she was better known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren as well as their friends. She attended her grandchildren’s birthday parties, sporting events, awards ceremonies, and any other life events no matter how big or small. Her grandchildren always knew she would be there. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends and was someone they knew they could depend on.

Faye was a very loyal, hard-working, kindhearted, and gracious lady.  She lived a joyous and giving life and strived to put others before herself.  She turned to God throughout the good times as well as the bad and was such an inspiration not only to her family, but to everyone who met her.  She will be truly missed!

Faye is preceded in death by her husband, Jim V. Haddox; her parents, Mack Lensey Owens, Sr. and Katie Gertrude Kilpatrick Owens; her brothers, Mack L. Owens, Jr., Rev. Carl R. Owens, Sr. (wife Jean Owens), Wamul R. Owens (wife Christine Owens); her sisters, Nell Owens Foster (husband Wayne Foster), and Glenda Owens Johnston. She is survived by daughters, Lori Haddox Ray (husband Louis Ray), Lana Haddox Forte (husband Dr. Vincent R. Forte); sister-in-law, Dee Owens and brother-in-law David Johnston. Grandchildren include William L. Ray (Madeline), Caroline Ray Slaughter (Jake), Michael V. Forte (fiancé Kallie Davis), and James A. Forte, great granddaughter Catharine F. Ray, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Louis Ray, Dr. Vince Forte, William Ray, Michael Forte, James Forte, and Jake Slaughter.
