Eugenie Katerina Maria Geier Gunn (often called Genie) was born on January 9, 1932. She passed from this life on October 11, 2023. Genie grew up in Heidelberg, Germany during World War II with her parents Eugene and Susanna Geier, one sister Lisaliotte (Lilo), and one brother Hans. She experienced firsthand war torn Germany during World War II, with many stories of what it was like to live daily striving for food, seeking safety from bombings, and starting anew at the end of the war. She went to Cosmetology School and became a beautician, stating it was one of the few jobs available and that “everyone always wanted to be pretty.”
Genie came to the United States in 1954 as a GI bride, speaking only German but determined to find her destiny. She learned to speak English by reading comic books and worked at many jobs with the diligence and determination that the German culture is well known for. She met her second husband Claude Williams at one of those jobs at Fort Knox in Kentucky and became the mother of his two young daughters, rearing them with love and care. Genie was an excellent seamstress and cook, making awesome German food and outstanding cakes. She also had a gift with animals and especially a gift for healing animals of all kinds, seeming to instinctively know what each one needed, be it a dog, cat, orphaned raccoon, owl, squirrel, or opossum. Had she been born at an earlier time, she would have made an excellent veterinarian. Genie married her third husband Leo Gunn later in life following the death of her previous husband and they were very happy together traveling and enjoying being together. And she LOVED winning at Yahtzee even at the age of 91.
Genie was predeceased by her husband, Leo, her sister Lisaliotte and her parents.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her brother Hans, three step daughters-Brenda Hilburn (husband Kalmuth), Nelda Jeane (husband Glen), Leanna Minchew (husband Shane), 6 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.
