Ettye “Kay” Murphrey, 92, of West Monroe, Louisiana, passed away on July 28, 2023. Per her wishes, services will be private. Kay was born on June 27, 1932 in West Monroe. After she graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1950 Kay married Donald W. Murphrey, whom she had met in the sixth grade. Don and Kay had their one and only child, John Clark Murphrey, in 1952.
Kay’s studious family wanted her to go to school to become a teacher, but when she had John “Babe” Clark, Kay decided to dedicate her life to being a wonderful wife and mother. She was passionate about raising her flowers, fish pools, sewing, making curtains and other projects for the home, having her nails and hair done to the finest, listening to old records, and bird watching. Kay was always filling the home with warmth and kindness. We will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Ferguson Clark; father, John Clark; paternal father, Charles Weatherby; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Jo Thomas Murphrey.
Kay is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Donald; son, John Clark; grandson, Ryan Clark; great grandson, Tristan O’Ryan; great granddaughter, Zoey Alexis; sister, Felice Tucker; brother, Charles Weatherby; and many other cherished family and friends.
Donald would like to express his appreciation to the doctors and staff at St. Francis Hospital ICU and to the sitters in her final moments.
