Funeral services for Elizabeth Octavia (Tavia) Hicks Mathis, 89, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 26, 2014 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Bro. Charles Martindale will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.Mrs. Mathis was born March 23, 1924 in Memphis, Tennessee and passed away January 24, 2014 in West Monroe. She was a longtime Safeway employee. Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her husbands, T. J. Mathis and D.V. Hicks; father, Charles O. Doyle; mother, Vera Lampley Doyle; brothers, Dalhart and Kenneth Doyle; sisters, Vee Gipson and Shirley Jones; son, Don Hicks;Mrs. Mathis is survived by her three sons; David and wife Beverly, Jerry and wife Anna Gayle and Gerry and wife Terri Hicks; brother, Charles Doyle, Jr.,; seven grandchildrenMike, Mark, Jeff and Shane Hicks, Jerri Gayle Ginn, Tonya Willmore and Krystle Ivey; 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; 2 sister-in-laws, Betty and Mary Alice Doyle of Memphis, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many friends.Pallbearers will be Mike Hicks, Mark Hicks, Jeff Hicks, Shane Hicks, Jason Hicks , Jake Hicks, Blade Hicks, Kendall Ginn and Kence Ginn.Visitation will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.

I knew the name Tavia as the name for my grandmother. Growing up, I called her "my Tavia". I loved seeing her and my Poppi on our trips making memories that have stayed with me through the years. I am sending my love and prayers to Tavia and family.
