Edwin McFadden Watkins, Jr., 74, of West Monroe, LA was born December 7, 1938 in Monroe, LA and passed away March 29, 2013 at his home. Ed valiantly lived with disability after a debilitating stroke for 8 years prior to his death. Ed was a faithful member, Sunday School Teacher, and Deacon of First Baptist Church West Monroe, LA. He graduated from West Monroe High in 1956 and LSU with a BS Mechanical Engineering and MBA. He served 2 years in the US Army and was honorably discharged as Captain. Ed spent most of his professional life as an Engineer at Riverwood International. He was on the Board of Directors of Glenwood Regional Hospital, a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, as well as a premier golfer in Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Blanche Watkins both of West Monroe. Ed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Barnett Watkins, daughters Renee Watkins Draughon Randy of Nashville, TN and Lori Watkins Ware. Surviving grandchildren are Zachary, Trenton and Maggie Draughon and Hannah, Mallori and Seph Ware.Siblings include: brothers, William Bill Watkins Pat of Tequesta, FL, John Watkins Rikki of Mobile, AL, and sister, Jill Watkins Burtner Jim of Magnolia, TX. Ed is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, April 1st at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA from 5-8PM. Services will be held in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of West Monroe on Tuesday, April 2nd at 2PM. Prior to the service there will be visitation between 12:30-2:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by the Reverend's Mark Fenn, Doug Turner and Randy Draughon. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Zachary Draughon, Trenton Draughon, Seph Ware, Rich Barnett, Gabriel Ligon, Karl Kaufmann, and James Watkins. The family would like to thank Lesa James, Viola Coleman, Karl Kaufmann and Melanie Massey Physical Therapy for their love, compassion and companionship for Ed over the last 8 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to The Seph Ware Medical Fund at 1019 Hicks St, West Monroe, LA 71291 in honor of Ed's grandson who is living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
