On Sunday July 8, 2007 Edward T. Phillips answered his savior≠s request to join him in his everlasting kingdom. Ed was a man that called everyone he met a friend, and is best known for his kind words and gracious remarks. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and especially those who loved him. Ed was born June 23, 1919 to Henry Lee and Elvie E. Phillips in Farmerville, LA. He passed away Sunday afternoon July 8, 2007 at Live Oak Retirement Center in Shreveport, LA. During his 88 years on this earth Ed had a variety of vocations that kept him active and involved in society. Starting out as a young man, Ed volunteered for the Army and served honorably in both WWII and the Korean War. Shortly after discharge, he joined the United States Postal Service and dutifully fulfilled his postal rounds. The call of entrepreneurship beckoned Ed to his next calling when he became owner/proprietor of a busy Gulf Oil station in Farmerville. In addition to the above, Ed was elected as a Union Parish Police Juror for numerous terms. While not widely known as a farmer or a gardener, he was very adept at both and won many awards for his produce and flower gardens. One award that Ed cherished beyond all others was his award for the Oldest Working Employee in Union Parish. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee and Elvie Phillips, his brothers, Henry, Roy, Fred, R.J., and his sister, Maxine. Ed is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Aline Albritton Phillips and their daughter, Peggy Gavin and her husband, Greg; grandson, Chuck Mullins and his wife Kim; their children, Rory and Jaden Mullins. He is also survived by his brother Bill Phillips. Pallbearers will be: Chuck Mullins, Greg Gavin, Jerry Downing, Johnny Bridges, Trey Roberson, and Greg Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Donald Neal and Doug Phillips. Memorial Services will be held in Shreveport at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the Chapel at the Live Oak Retirement Center, 600 E. Flournoy Lucas Rd. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, between the hours of 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 202 North Washington St. Farmerville, LA. Graveside will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Liberty Hill / Taylor Cemetery.
