EDWARD L. MOYERS, JR. Naples, Florida Edward L. Moyers, Jr., 77, formerly of Ruston, died Monday, June 5, 2006 in Naples, Florida. Mr. Moyers was born to Edward L. Moyers and Lucille Lewis Moyers on October 3, 1928 near Meridian, Mississippi. He was reared in Vicksburg and was a 1947 graduate of Chamberlain-Hunt Military Academy in Port Gibson, Mississippi. He served in the United States Navy in the Korean War. He was a 1955 graduate of Louisiana Tech University. Mr. Moyers had a long and distinguished career in the railroad industry, mainly with the Illinois Central Railroad in Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky and Illinois. In 1985, he became President and C.E.O. of MidSouth Rail Corporation in Jackson. In 1989, he was named President and C.E.O. of Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago, Illinois, serving until 1993. Following a short retirement, he became President and C.E.O. of Southern Pacific Railway in Denver, Colorado in 1993, a position he held until 1995. After retirement, he continued to be active in the railroad business, overseeing the management and construction of two Brazilian rail projects. He was also a former member of the Board of Trustees of Millsaps College and the Board of Directors of Deposit Guaranty National Bank. He served as Chairman of Louisiana Tech≠s Centennial Development Program, and received the Tower Medallion for permanent recognition as a distinguished alumni. In 1989, he received the Jackson Journal of Business Captain of Industry Award and in 1995 he was named Railway Age Magazine≠s Railroader of the Year. He was a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elladean Moyers Hall and brother James Olin Moyers. He is survived by his wife, Helen H. Moyers of Naples, Florida; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Alison Moyers, and their children Meredith and Alex, of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Todd Scarlett, and their sons Ben and David, of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister Mary Ann Barker of Hamburg, Arkansas and brother and sister-in-law Pat and Linda Moyers of Ruston, Louisiana. Visitation will be Thursday, June 8, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 209 North Bonner Street, and Friday, June 9, from 9:00 am until time of service at the Presbyterian Church of Ruston. Services will be at 10:00 am at Presbyterian Church of Ruston, 212 North Bonner Street, Ruston, Louisiana. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ruston.
