Dr. William Miles “Bill” Crow Dr. William Miles “Bill” Crow, a retired college professor and resident of Ruston, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Marion, he was 85 years old. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Temple Baptist Church at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 18, 2011. Services will be conducted by Reverend Dale Oden. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Dr. Crow is survived by his wife Shirley Drake Crow; son, Allan Crow of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Brenda Benthul and husband James of Prairieville; son, Grady Crow and wife Susan of Cypress, TX; stepson, Scott Hench and wife Lisa of Ruston; stepdaughter, Michele Werner and husband Todd of Ruston; grandchildren, Austin and Bailey Crow of Cypress, TX; Jessica Aucoin Mushtare and husband Dallas of Ponchatoula; Taylor Aucoin of Baton Rouge; step grandchildren, Rachel Myers of Shreveport, Ashtin Bell, T. J. and Mattison Werner all of Ruston; great granddaughter Audrianna Mushtare of Ponchatoula; and brother Perry Lee Crow and wife Helen of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Hanna Crow of Ruston; parents, Perry Lee and Iva Lee Crow of Marion; and his sister Eloise Brashier of Bastrop. He was a graduate of Marion High School and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University, and earned both Masters and Educational Doctorate Degrees from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Crow began his teaching career at Fair Park High School in Shreveport before becoming the head boy's and girl's basketball coach and boys' baseball coach at Ringgold High School. He then served as principal at Bienville High School. After completing his doctorate, he joined the faculty of Louisiana Tech University, where he taught in the College of Education for over 25 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Ruston and a former member of First Baptist Church of Ruston and First Baptist Church of Bossier City, where he lived for two years. Dr. Crow was extremely active in the community. He started the Royal Ambassadors program for boys at First Baptist Church which he directed for over ten years. Under his leadership, First Baptist Church won numerous athletic championships in state Royal Ambassadors competition and participated in mission projects at the local and state levels. He was a coach in Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys Baseball of Ruston and later coached the Ruston Roadrunners semi-professional baseball team. Dr. Crow was a longtime member of the Ruston Kiwanis Club, served as the local club's president and held the position of secretary-treasurer for over 20 years. He was also elected to two terms as Lt. Governor of the Louisiana Mississippi West Tennessee District of Kiwanis International. He was also an avid Louisiana Tech sports fan.
