Dear Mrs. Barker, Hal and Linda, So sorry to hear about Mr. Barker. I have many fond memories of parties and sleepovers at ya'll's house when I was growing up. I think Linda had the first boy/girl party that I ever went to. I always felt so welcome when I was there. Just wanted you to know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

My sincere sympathy to Ruby Nell. I worked under Dean Barker for many years at Louisiana Tech University. He took a risk in hiring a female department head and I am grateful to him for having done that.

Mrs. Barker, I did not know about Mr. Barker's passed until today. I am so so sorry for your loss. It is not easy to try to cope with loss of our loved ones. I still remember coming over to your house from My grandmother's House Gena Hethcox to fish with Mr. Barker and catch the catfish. Those were the best times of my life. Please let me know if you need anything, I am just a small drive away. Love you always, Shelley Bollier Mesloh

Dean Barker was such an encourager and mentor to me while I was at Tech trying to get in vet school. I was accepted on the first try, as were all 5 that applied that year. That is a testimony to the strength of Tech's programs in Dean Barker's College of Life Sciences at Tech. I will forever remember his love for his students---it was a tangible thing. My condolences to the family in your loss.

Dear Mrs. Barker, James and Linda, I am sorry to know of Dr. Barker's death. I know that he has had problems with Parkinism and as of this pass weekend that he had slipped into a coma. Although we have had our own health issues within the McGehee family, it does not compare with your loss. Only Jesus Himself knows of your grief and of your need of comfort. We do need each others consolation. I am sad to not have been physically with you at the wake or funeral sometimes I wish I could be split to be in more than one place at a time but my thoughts for you have continued. May the Lord give you His mercy and peace.

Dean Barker was a strong and positive influence on me as a young man. He was my professor, college advisor, Dean and mentor. I was also a student worker in his office for two years. He never failed to encourage, challenge, guide, direct and even push me in directions to excell academically and in service to the university and agriculture. All of us that passed through the College of Life Science in the early 1970's owe him a debt of gratitude. I have thought of him often over the past 36 years since my graduation. I will continue to do so with gratitude for his guidence and example.
