On May 3, 2025, Dr. David E. Gullatt, age 75, of Simsboro passed peacefully from this life into the presence of Jesus. A memorial service will be held on May 5, 2025, at 2:00 P.M., at Temple Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Reggie Bridges and Rev. Dale Oden officiating. A visitation will be held in the Temple Baptist Church Chapel on May 5, 2025, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Highway 815, south of Simsboro, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
David was born September 8, 1949, in Ruston, Louisiana. David is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Harrell Gullatt, and nephew Jeff Martin. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue Durrett Gullatt, a sister, Diane (Ed) Martin and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
David was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and the University of Kansas at Lawrence. He served 29 years as a supervisor of administration and curriculum, an elementary and secondary principal, and a mathematics teacher within the public schools of Louisiana. For 15 years following those assignments he held teaching, administrative, and supervisory positions in higher education at Northwestern State University and Louisiana Tech University. Dr. Gullatt served as Program Head, Department Head, and Dean of the College of Education at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, retiring in 2012.
Serving as Pallbearers are Gary Cathey, Ronnie Cathey, Daniel Durrett, Ricky Durrett, Tony Durrett, John Gullatt, Steve Gullatt, and Toby Polman. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult II Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, Temple Baptist Church “Next Chapter” Campaign, or The Oak Grove Cemetery Association at 1223 Hwy 815, Simsboro, LA, 71275.
