Dorothy Morgan Ray of West Monroe, Louisiana, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Dorothy was born in Charleston, Mississippi on October 29, 1928 to Benjamin and Harriet Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Birdie Morgan, Kathleen Morgan Sheffield, Coley Morgan and David Morgan. She is also preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Amos Lester Ray.Dorothy was an elementary teacher for several years following college but after having her children, devoted her time to volunteer work and church service. She served in numerous positions of leadership in the Baptist church, as well as teaching English as a second language to many students. Dorothy and Lester retired to Hot Springs Village and continued serving at their church in the Village throughout their retirement. They liked to travel and took trips with friends to Estes Park, Colorado for many summers to work in the State Park and to explore Colorado. Dorothy will be remembered by many for her sense of humor and selfless service to others.She leaves behind three daughters, Linda Ray Paredes (Felipe), Brenda Ray Anderson (Michael) and Bonnie Ray Turek (John). She also leaves her grandchildren, Ashley Hubenthal (Andrew), Nathan Yeldell, Tanner Yeldell, Anna Turek and J Turek, as well as a great-grandchild, Cully Hubenthal.The family would like to thank the staff of Rosemont Assisted Living, the nurses of Jordan Hospice and her loving and devoted caregivers, Joyce Smith and Kathryn Eubanks.A graveside service will be Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Charleston City Cemetery, Charleston, Mississippi.
