Dorothy May “Dot” Colvin Napper died peacefully at her home on May 9, 2025. Dot was born in Ruston on March 8,1929 to Ruth and Samuel Welch Colvin. She graduated from Ruston High School in May 1946, and she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, 1949, from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University).
Dot married Harry Dean Napper on May 20,1950, and they were married for 70 years. Harry and Dot raised their family and lived their entire lives in the home they built on Ridge Drive.
Dot worked as an accountant for Robert Holladay, CPA from 1967 until she retired in 1994. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church where she and Harry worshiped and served since 1956. She participated in many Women of Grace ministries and was a longtime member of the Sunday school class, Workers for Christ.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and celebrating holidays with family. Dot was greatly admired for her kind and loving nature. Her family and friends were inspired by her loyalty, her generosity, her hospitality, and her Christian faith.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Pearce Colvin (Lib) and Tracy Colvin, husband Harry, son Steve Napper and great-grandson Alexander Spector.
She is survived by daughters Barbara Napper Lyon (Chad) and Deana Napper Mitchell; daughter-in-law Cissy Hermann Napper; grandchildren Stephanie Napper Spector (Jason) and great grandsons Adam and Andrew; Tiffany Napper; Elizabeth Mitchell Taylor (Ross) and great grandchildren Jackson and Audrey Taylor; Steven “Bud” Lyon (Kim); and Meg Lyon Hanna (Matt) and their daughters Ellie and Claire Hanna.
The family is grateful to Dr. Mark Blackwelder, Dr. Billy Smith, the sitters from Tender Touch, and Allegiance Hospice who have provided such compassionate care for her over the last five years.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 9:00 am at Grace Methodist Church with funeral service to follow at 10 am. Interment will immediately follow at Harmony Chapel Cemetery in Hico, LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Ruston.
The Pallbearers will be Lawrence Higginbotham, Ross Taylor, Jackson Taylor, Jason Spector, Adam Spector, and Andrew Spector. Honorary pallbearers include Wes Lynch, Kenny Cobb, Chad Lyon, Bud Lyon, and Matt Hanna.
Memorial donations can be made to Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, Louisiana Tech Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
