Funeral services honoring the life of Donald “Donnie” E. Plunk, Sr., age 71, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at The Pentecostals of the Twin Cities in West Monroe. Officiating will be Pastor Jason Ramsey and Richard Richardson, Jr. Entombment will follow in the Open Air Chapel Mausoleum at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens. Services are under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe.
Donnie was born on May 20, 1950, and passed away surrounded by his beloved family at his residence on October 6, 2021.
Donnie was an entrepreneur with interests in many different businesses. He invested in his community by developing and managing countless commercial properties. He was the owner and operator of Donnie Plunk’s Towing and Recovery INC. and Truck Parts and Equipment INC. He was appointed as an honorary Deputy Sheriff of Ouachita Parish by Sheriff Jay Russell and Chief Marc Mashaw for his commitment to supporting law enforcement and first responders through the community. But his pride and joy was his family. He thoroughly enjoyed the fact that his whole family lived all around him on their family farm.
Donnie was preceded in death by the love of his life of over 50 years, his wife, Sherry Delancy Plunk. Sherry and Donnie were high school sweethearts. Donnie spoke often of his soon reunion with her in Heaven. He was also preceded by his father, Robert William Plunk; brothers, Ricky Plunk and Alan Plunk.
Donnie is survived by his mother, Kathryn Plunk; brothers, Mickey and Bobby Plunk; sisters, Bobby Jean Gilbert and her husband, Johnny; Linda Canterberry and her husband, Doot; Tanya Witchen and her husband, Jim, Patsy Rougeaou; daughters, Sharon Plunk, Sarah Nelson and her husband, Chris; son, Don Plunk and his wife, Ashley; grandchildren, Alan Disotell and fiancée, Sabrina Mata, William Disotell and his wife, Kayla, Claire Disotell, Ethan Plunk, Olivia Plunk, Sophia Plunk, Katie Nelson, Cole Moore, Luke Nelson, Grant Nelson and Emory Nelson; great grandchildren, Sawyer Disotell and Tucker Disotell; numerous nieces, nephews and amazing friends.
Honoring Donnie as active pallbearers will be Alan Disotell, Will Disotell, Ethan Plunk, Luke Nelson, Wayne Crowell, Hank Tarver, Beryl Richardson and Myron Plunk.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie (TOD) Cummings, Grant Nelson, Richard Richardson Sr., Ron Scott, Lonnie McCurry Sr., Mike Joyner and Caley Joyner.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at The Pentecostals of the Twin Cities in West Monroe.
