Funeral services for Donald Lee Aswell, 85, will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at First Methodist Church, Downsville, LA with Rev. Lisa Mayo officiating. Interment will follow at Downsville Cemetery, Downsville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Born July 19, 1926 in Ouachita Parish, LA and passed away December 2, 2011 in Sachse, TX. After graduating from Downsville High School he attended LSU, earning a degree in chemistry. While at LSU he met the love of his life, Virginia Loveless, whom he married on Valentine's Day in 1948. Don went onto work for Louisiana Power and Light and retired as Senior Vice President of production for Mid South Utilities in New Orleans. During retirement he filled his days volunteering at the hospital, playing golf and enjoying time with family. Don was a longtime member of Gretna United Methodist Church and a member of Gideon's International. Proceeded in death by daughter, Marjorie Aswell; brothers Harold and Robert Aswell; and sister, Minnie Craft. Mr. Aswell is survived by his wife and soul mate of 62 years, Virginia Aswell; daughter, Carol Campion and husband, Laurence; son, Paul Aswell and wife, Meg; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, James Aswell and wife, Mableine; and sister in-law, Betty Aswell. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
