Genevieve Dixie Young Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA Funeral services for Genevieve Dixie Young, age 80, of Ruston will be held 10:00 A.M Monday November 12, 2007, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. James Grafton. Interment will follow at Ansley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Dixie was born in Ansley, Louisiana on April 17, 1927, to Dixie Arthur and Laura Joanna Young. She attended school there and graduated from Ansley High School. She worked in the Post Office in Ansley. While working at a local furniture store in Ruston, there was an opening for Meter Maid and on October 1, 1966, Dixie joined the Ruston Police Department and served there until her retirement on October 31, 1983. She was the first woman to join the Ruston Police Department and the first woman to retire from it. Dixie was a member of the Barnett Springs Baptist Church in Ruston. Dixie moved back to Ruston in 2006, after having lived in Arkansas for a number of years. She has been in the Alpine Nursing Home in Ruston for the last year. She is survived by one niece: Joan Pelt and husband E.L. of Nederland, TX; two nephews: Garland Young and wife Brenda of Nederland, TX and Donnie Davis and wife Sharon of West Monroe, LA; Godchild: Mary Elizabeth Horstmann and other family and friends. Pallbearers will be members and retired members of the Ruston Police Department. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 8 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.
