Funeral services for Dawn Aswell Moore will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Douglas Church in Choudrant, Louisiana. Bro. Jeremy Jones and Bro. Werner Aswell will officiate. Interment will follow at Choudrant Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana.

Dawn Aswell Moore was born on November 18, 1958 to Mary Ford Aswell and Joe Ragan Aswell.  She graduated from Choudrant High School and attended Louisiana Tech University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. Anyone who knew her knew of her love of animals.

Dawn’s love of animals and her competitive spirit shone through in her competing in rodeos and livestock shows. It was while pursuing her passion that she met the love of her life Steve Sellers Moore. They were married on April 10, 1982 in Choudrant, Louisiana where they made their home.

Dawn was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 37 years.  She enjoyed the friendships she built over the years with those on her route. Dawn was always willing to offer a listening ear or a helping hand. She was an active member of Douglas Church and participated in Vacation Bible School every summer. Dawn looked forward to dressing up for Halloween and greeting the many trick-or-treaters who knew her house on the corner was the place to go.

Dawn had a passion for gardening and enjoyed spending her afternoons tending to her vegetables and flowers with her loyal pack of dogs. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family at holiday gatherings and special events. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the friends she collected over the years.

Dawn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. W.L. Aswell and Mr. & Mrs. John E. Ford; Uncle Roy and Aunt Sybil Aswell, Aunt Betty Aswell Adams, Uncle Billy Ford, Aunt Joanne Pilcher; beloved Great Uncle & Aunt Cecil and Vera Edmiston, father, Joe Ragan Aswell; father-in-law, Steve F. Moore; mother-in-law, Patsy Sellers Moore; and beloved cousin, Jacob Aswell.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Steve Sellers Moore; son, Colt Moore; nieces, Joella Seay and Addy Seay; beloved grand-nephew, James Ragan; Uncle Wayne Aswell and wife Cathy, Aunt Barbara Jean Aswell, Aunt Beverly Aswell, Uncle Eddie Ford and wife Evelyn, Aunt Patsy Lowe and husband Troy; brother-in-law, Jeff Moore; brother-in-law James Moore and wife Jan, niece, Jessie Moore Simmons and husband Ethon and daughter, Olivia; nephew, Jake Moore; mother, Mary Ford Aswell; sister, Ellen Aswell, and numerous cousins and close friends.

Pallbearers will be Scott Wiggers, Clint Driskill, Chandler Silmon, Danny Henderson, Ben Christmas, Jake Moore, Ethon Simmons, and Tim Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Moore, James Moore, Stanley White, Kenny Bob Brister, Justin Hall, Casey Ivy, John Wixon, Larry Aswell, Ed Penton, and Bobby Joe Milner.
