A funeral mass celebrating the life of Mr. David “Dave” Joseph Cattar Sr., age 84, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Monroe, LA. Officiating will be Father Mark Watson. Entombment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Services are under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. David was born on July 28, 1937 and passed away on October 28, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Cattar.
David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Cattar; 5 children; Kim Cattar Haas (Morris), Allison Rose Cattar, Lisa Cattar Nelson (Trey), Leslie Cattar Stinson and David Cattar, Jr.; grandchildren; Christopher Haas, Michael Haas (Bailey), Leslie Elaine Kennedy, Cattar Kennedy (Samantha), John David Cattar, Anna Caples (Hall), Mary Elizabeth Fisher (Nicholas), Michael Stinson Jr., Isabelle Stinson, Anna Cattar, Caroline Cattar; great-grandchildren; James Caples, Luke Caples, Adaline Fox and Lydia Fisher; and a sister, Patsy Mullaney (Larry); several nieces and nephews.
Dave was born in Jacksonville, Florida where he grew up during his formative years and eventually graduated from the University of Florida (His beloved Gators!). As part of Dave’s educational pursuits, he spent a year participating in numerous management training seminars at Harvard School of Business. Dave began his professional career with St. Regis Paper Company where he served as Controller for the Lone Star Division in Houston, Texas. He eventually moved his young family to Monroe and began working for Adam’s Industries where he served as President until 1979. In early 1980, Dave was co-founder of Sunbelt Plastics where here successfully served as Chief Operating Officer until the eventual sale in 1998 to Tyco International. In his later professional years, Dave was involved in numerous entrepreneurial ventures as well as serving as a business growth consultant to numerous companies including Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and Bancroft Bag. He was active in local medical community endeavors and enjoyed serving in numerous capacities with St. Francis Medical Center including Chairman as well as being a board member for the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Heath System in Baton Rouge. He was integrally involved with the formation of P&S Surgery Center where he was a co-founder and served as Chairman of the Board. Dave thoroughly enjoyed his association with members of the medical community and was proud to be part of improving the healthcare systems and care within the community.
When not working, Dave enjoyed traveling with Barbara and his family, playing golf, and spending time supporting his children and grandchildren in all their sporting, scholastic, and professional endeavors. In later years with the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he became affectionally referred to as Papa, a role he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all that knew him.
Honoring Dave as pallbearers will be Christopher Haas, Cattar Kennedy, Michael Haas, Michael Stinson, Jr., John David Cattar, Hall Caples and Nicholas Fisher.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Cage, Stanley Chahala, Phillip Richard Hazouri, JB Landry, Claxton Mayo, Buddy Rizzo, Frank Scalia, Charles Shartle, John Spence and Jerry Wolff.
Memorials may be made in Dave’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
