Funeral services for Mr. Dan B. Taylor, age 62, of Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 5, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Officiating will be Reverend Larry Stafford. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 8, 2007, at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. Dan B. Taylor, local entrepreneur, businessman, and commercial realtor passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007, in Beaver Creek, CO. Dan was born on November 10, 1944, at Fort McPherson; Atlanta, GA. Dan was a graduate of Hapeville High School, where he lettered in four sports, was an officer in R.O.T.C., and the sports editor of the school newspaper. He attended Georgia Tech and Southern Tech, earning a degree in Industrial Engineering. Dan spent 27 years working in the apparel manufacturing business. He began his career at Carwood Manufacturing Company in Winder, GA and Athens, TN, where he became Director of Manufacturing. In 1974, Dan became Vice-President of Manufacturing for Days, Inc. in Tacoma, WA. In 1978, Dan was transferred to Monroe, LA as President of another Palm Beach Apparel Company. In 1983, Dan and his partners John Bryant and Billy Mattison formed their own apparel manufacturing company, River City Trading Company, Inc. With Dan as President of the company, Governor Buddy Roemer awarded River City Trading Company, Inc. the Lantern Award for outstanding business achievement. The partners sold that company in 1991, and Dan and his partners continued their involvement in TMB Partnership, a real estate investment company. Dan also became a Licensed Commercial Realtor with John Rea Realty and earned numerous awards while working there. Dan was a founding Board Member of Horizons Bank and was currently serving as a regional advisory board member of Iberia Bank. He had been a member of the ULM Foundation Board, President of Bayou DeSiard Country Club, President of the Southwest Apparel and Textile Manufacturers Association, member of the Education Committee of the Southern Textile Institute, and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Monroe. Dan was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. All who were fortunate to know him were touched by his kindness, generosity, servant≠s heart, his love for God, and his passion for life. He will be forever loved and deeply missed. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mabel Taylor, and his maternal grandparents, Daniel Martin and Lettie Crews. Dan is survived by his wife, Phyllis, who was his high school sweetheart; sons, Dan Taylor of Atlanta, GA, Michael Taylor and his wife, Silvia of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Taylor of Dallas, TX. Madison and Matthew were the absolute joy of his life. Dan also is survived by his loving parents, Jesse and Donnie Taylor; brother, Randall Taylor and his wife, Deborah; nephew, Tristin, all of Atlanta, GA. Pallbearers will be Mike Riley, Billy Haddad, Van Pardue, Frank Spooner, Jim Lowery, and John Rea. Honorary pallbearers will be John Bryant and Billy Mattison. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe on Lamy Lane. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Grace Place Ministries, or to the charity of your choice. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
