Curtis Kevin Kilpatrick, 69, passed from his earthly life to his heavenly home on November 15, 2023. His almost 9 year battle with brain cancer ushered him into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Kevin was born to Rosina and Bill Kilpatrick in Shreveport, Louisiana on July 27, 1954.
Kevin was a godly man who loved his Savior, his family, and his friends fervently with kindness, compassion, and joy, with much laughter and always mischief thrown into the mix. His deep faith which carried him throughout his life was consistently first and foremost, and was lived out humbly before all. Kevin persevered and trusted his loving Father whether in joy or trial. Although Kevin loved God and his people above all else, he was also quite keen on barefoot water skiing, snow skiing, dirt bikes, playing games with his cherished children, grandchildren, family, and friends, indoors or out, and always, always was ready with a joke or tease. Kevin loved life big.
Kevin moved from Texas as a high school junior with his parents and brothers to Covington, Louisiana in 1971 where he graduated from Covington High School in 1973. It was here in high school where he met his beloved wife, Karen McKee. He and Karen were married in 1977, after which he completed his degree in 1978 from LSU. Although Kevin began his professional career upon graduation as a mud engineer in Houma, Louisiana, he always had an eye for business and worked in various jobs from childhood, starting with selling greeting cards door to door as a ten-year-old. During his time as a mud engineer in Houma, Kevin and Karen were blessed with a wonderful son, Britton. After a career change to computer programming, and a move to New Orleans in 1985 for employment with Entergy, God added two more precious children to their family, Christopher and Sarah. After moving back to Houma in 1994 where Kevin programmed for ten years with Saia Motor Freight, God called Kevin and Karen into fulltime vocational ministry. After 2 years of serving in Malawi, Africa with African Bible Colleges as a computer teacher, a mentor, a volunteer in children’s ministry and as a volunteer in a local baby orphanage, Kevin returned with Karen and Sarah to live in Ruston in 2008. Kevin completed his professional career in 2021 as an IT specialist with ULM.
While in New Orleans, Kevin worshipped and served at Berean Bible Church, and in Houma at First Baptist Church. Both bodies were a joy to him and his family and held many cherished friends. The beloved body of The Bridge Community Church where Kevin has worshipped and served since 2008, has lovingly and graciously helped shepherd him home.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Bill Kilpatrick, and father and mother-in-law, Joan and Stanley McKee. He is survived by his mother, Rosina Kelly Kilpatrick of Covington, LA; his wife of 46 years, Karen McKee Kilpatrick; children Britton Kilpatrick (Jenn) of Ruston, LA, Christopher Kilpatrick of Dallas, TX, Sarah Kilpatrick (Vince) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Mary Simal of Indianapolis, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Siriana, Julian, Nash, and Dove Kilpatrick, and Soda and Awa Simal; brothers Randy Kilpatrick of Katy, TX., and Jeff Kilpatrick (Jodi) of Covington, LA; sister-in-law Melanie Barfield (Bourdon) of Fairview, TX, brother-in-law Rene McKee (Chris) of Lorange, LA; 17 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles, all well-loved.
