Mrs. Charlottie Willis Dent died after a short illness. She was born March 12, 1927 in Abbeville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by parents, Thomas Tilden Willis and Augusta Gussie Jones Willis of Henry County, Alabama; her brother, Commander Thomas Jones Willis; and her husband, William Eugene Dent, Jr. Mrs. Dent attended Huntington College, Montgomery, Alabama and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and active in many of Monroe's civic and cultural organizations. She was a member of the boards of the following organizations – Junior League, Young Women's Christian Association, The Cerebral Palsy Board, Chapter AK PEO, Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, The Monroe Garden Club. She was presented an in club certificate for her works concerning conservation as well as the Marion Thompson Fuller Brown Award for conservation by the Monroe Garden Study League. She served on the Forsythe Park Study Board. The Jefferson Award was presented to Mrs. Dent by the American Institute for Public Service. This award is presented to individuals who exemplify the American Spirit through leadership and a sense of duty to their fellow Americans. The award was presented to Mrs. Dent and forty other individuals in the United States Supreme Court Building in Washington, D. C. She was also a board member of Colonial Dames of America XVII Century, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of Founders and Patriots. Mrs. Dent is survived by her sons, William E. Dent III and Mark Willis Dent; special daughter, Kathy Vellard; granddaughter, Charlottie Katherine Korrodi; grandsons, Aaron Tilden Dent and wife, Dana, their two children Tyler Tilden and of course Abigail Marie; Alexander D. Dent and Adam Dent; nephew, Thomas A. Willis and wife, Glenda as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Parkview Baptist Church, Monroe, Louisiana with Rev. Erby Burgess officiating with Rev. Lanny Turner assisting. The private burial service will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 P.M. to service time. Pallbearers will be nephews and others, Richard Harding, Barry Dent, Eugene Dent, Tommy Dent, Thomas Allen Willis and Willie Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Friends Sunday School Class, Dr. Sol Courtman, Pat Siudy, Edward Seymour, O. C. Portman and Sandra Huddleston. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Dent's caregivers in her final days. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or the charity of your choice.
