Mr. Charles Monk Funeral services for Charles Monk, 64, of Bernice, LA., will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Sharon Baptist Church in Bernice with Rev. Carroll Holmes officiating and long time friend Buzzy Buckner. Interment will follow at Sharon Cemetery in Dubach under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Farmerville. Charles E. Monk was born on August 26, 1946 in Scott County, Mississippi to Abb and Truddie Monk. He passed away on February 1, 2011 at his home following a four year battle with cancer. He was an oilfield production foreman, supervisor and consultant for many years working in LA, Mississippi and Texas. He was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam where he received many commendations. He was also a member of Sharon Baptist Church. Charles loved his family and people in general and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved to fish, hunt, build and help others in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leon and Billy and an infant sister, Dorothy. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Peggy Odom Monk of Bernice, LA., one son, Eddy Monk and wife Barbara, daughter, Charla Boyett and husband Aaron, one sister, Virginia Lay, brothers, Thomas and George all of Bernice, LA; James and Johnny of Simsboro, LA; Larry of Haughton, LA; and Neal of Deyersburg, Tenn; grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden and Hunter Monk, Tori Boyett and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Puduvali and Staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Dr. Burton and Staff at Fiest Weiller Cancer Center for their dedicated care. Peggy would also like to thank the family and friends for their prayers and support during Charles' illness. She would especially like to thank Tom Odom for his generosity, moral support, faithfulness and transportation back and fourth to Houston, Texas. Pallbearers are Thomas Monk, George Monk, James Monk, Johnny Monk, Larry Monk, and Neal Monk. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Odom, Jimmy Odom, Donny Odom, and Lee Moon.
