Funeral services for Charlene Palmer, 75, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Feazel Chapel, First Baptist Church of West Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Fenn and Dr. Henry Malone. Interment will be at Laran Cemetery in Union Parish.Charlene Palmer was born April 6, 1932 in Laran, LA and passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 at home after a lengthy illness.Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her parents, Carl D. and Gladys Wells Holloway, and brothers, Floyd L., George Earl, C.D., and Bobby Holloway. Also preceding her in death were husbands, Carl J. Ernst and Samuel J. Tubbs.Mrs. Palmer is survived by her husband, Don C. Palmer of Monroe, three sisters, Dr. Daisy H. Daniels, and husband, James G. Daniels, Monroe, Annize1 Holloway Martin, North Carolina, and Tina Holloway Malone, and husband, Dr. Henry Malone, Lewisville, TX; two brothers, Glen W. Holloway and wife Bettye, and Harry Holloway and wife, Christi, all of Houston, TX.Charlene, known by her family as “Charlie” is survived by three daughters: Carlene Ernst Howell and husband, Hut of Monroe; Joyce Ernst Guy Dansby and husband, Bill, of Philadelphia, MS; Anita Ernst Watson and husband, Woods, of Monroe. Grandchildren include: Katherine High and husband, Brian; Jenny Jones and husband, Tommy, Bess Howell, Harrison Howell, Carly Guy Long and husband, Jon Michael, Darrell Guy, Christopher, Amber, Kyle, Graydon and Cooper Randol and Johnathon Watson. She is also survived by three great-grand children, Henry High, Carson and Avery Jones along with numerous nieces and nephews.Survivors also include Donna Palmer Goeser and husband, Mike, Cheryl Goeser Toler and husband, Aaron and Kevin Goeser all of Houston, TX, Don E. Palmer and wife, Yvonne, Lafayette.Mrs. Palmer received the B.A. Degree from Louisiana State University and M.Ed. from University of Mississippi. Her teaching career spanned many years in both Louisiana and Mississippi. She was retired from Kiroli Elementary School in Ouachita Parish.Charlene had many varied experiences. She operated Ernst Flying Service in Webb, Mississippi, following the death of her first husband. After moving to Monroe, she was a partner with her daughter in Rogers-Tubbs Interiors. “Charlie” had a variety of interests and hobbies. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing, and attending the sporting events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although watercolor painting was her favorite medium, her most recent interest was the painting of animal themed chairs; the latest, an LSU Tiger chair completed a few weeks before her death.Charlene was a charter member of Chapter BB of PEO and served in a number of offices including two years as President. She was very interested in the goal of the organization, the education of women. Just this month her efforts resulted in a young lady receiving a grant to help finish student teaching. She was an active member of the Professional Honor Society for Teachers, Alpha Delta Kappa.Charlene, a devout and loving Christian, was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe and the Bonds Life Group. She was totally devoted to her family and friends, always going above the call of duty to make their lives more worthwhile.Pallbearers are Hutson R. Howell, Woods Watson, Bill Dansby, Tommy Jones, Brian High, Jon Michael Long, Derek L. Daniels and Mike Goeser.Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Lamy Lane in Monroe between the hours of 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 26.
