Cathy Stewart Cannon left us to be with her eternal family on June 17, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Memorial service will be Monday, June 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, charity, and self sacrifice, and a lifetime of friends and family. Cathy was born and resided in Alva, Oklahoma area and graduated from Burlington High School before marrying and moving to West Monroe in 1980. In addition to the numerous volunteer and charitable organizations through the years, Cathy was also employed by Drennans' Pharmacy and was an avid Avon sales representative. What will be remembered most is Cathy's willingness to give tirelessly of herself to anyone in need – whether transporting patients to clinics and doctor appointments; assisting low-income families with necessities; or spending time with the disabled and elderly, simply opening her home and heart to those requiring help was her greatest joy. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Volunteer Community Pharmacy and GO-CARE, as well as being associated with MADD and many other civic and church functions. Cathy truly lived to love others, and the lessons we learned from her examples will greatly outlast her short time on this Earth. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Ruth Stewart; brother, Teddy; niece, Trinity Stewart; nephew, Nathan Stewart; aunt and uncle, Dixie and Tiny Hammond. Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Rick, who steadfastly provided care and support throughout the duration of her illness; daughter, Erin Sego and husband Andrew of Memphis, TN; son, John Cannon of West Monroe; brother, Monte Stewart and wife Shelly of Amorita, OK; 3 special nephews, Logan, Tyson and Austin and countless other friends and “adopted in” members of the Cannon family. The Cannons extend their deepest gratitude to all those who have assisted us in the preceding months, as well as to the staffs of the Tulsa Cancer Center of America and Glenwood Hospital for their generosity and constant support, with special thanks to Ms. Linda Creed and Pat Hollenshead. Contributions and memorials may be made to the Kids Against Hunger of Northwest Oklahoma; kidsagainsthunger@sctelcom.net or Kids Against Hunger of Northwest Oklahoma, 114 A Loop Drive, P.O. Box 344, Cherokee, OK 73728. Visitation will be held Monday at 12:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
