Dear Ann, Steve and Richard,Words cannot express the sorrow I feel at the passing of Mrs. Ballard. She was always there for us. When Jerry was sick for so long she never stopped praying and caring for him and our family. She will always be remembered as a beautiful Christian lady. Elbert only knew her for a short time but she also made an impression on him from meeting her and from my memories I shared with him.Nancy and Elbert Hauser

Richard, my prayers are with you at this difficult time. Your mother gave me my first job; although it was more fun for me. She let me and Linda Jones Guidry work in her home the summer before we went to the 9th grade. You were away that summer. We washed dishes, changed bed linen and dusted. I was amazed at all the books in your home, many that I would attempt to read. To this day, I have a love and joy of reading and I attribute my time in your home to that. We didn't do that much work; at the age of 13 we were somewhat immature. But her love and concern for two little black girls from up the street exposed us to a different lifestyle as she encouraged us to study hard and do our best in school. And I don't count it a light thing either. Your mother was an inspiration, a light God sent across my path early in my life to put me on the path He had chosen for me, and I am grateful. Yes, Mrs. Ballard touched many lives and was loved and respected. My prayer is that the God of all comfort will comfort you know and in the days to come.
