Carolyn Stroheker Porter Our beloved mother, Carolyn Stroheker Porter, slipped into glory on August 23, 2006. She had eagerly waited being united with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her beloved husband, John A. Porter. Though we will greatly miss her, we released her with joy, knowing this is not the end. We have the great hope of life eternal with her because of our faith in Christ. Carolyn was born in Dallas, TX on October 22, 1919 to George C. Stroheker and Annie Lucile Travis Stroheker. After marrying John in 1938, they eventually settled in Ruston, Louisiana, where they lived for over 50 years. Life happily revolved around their children and their church family at Temple Baptist Church. For many years Carolyn taught Sunday School in Temple≠s College Department, was a member of the choir, and served with the International Friendship ministry. She worked at Louisiana Tech University for over 20 years, most of it as secretary to the Dean of Engineering. All whose lives touched Carolyn≠s were blessed by her kindness, gentleness, and cheerfulness. She lived out her love for Christ by loving and selflessly serving others. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband John after 64 years of devoted marriage. She is survived by her son John and his wife Patty of Arlington, TX; daughter Patty Martin and her husband Jonathan of Macon, GA; and daughter Brenda Harman and her husband Richard of Grand Prairie, TX; six grandchildren, Katie Feldhaus, Pamela Carmona, Casey Martin, Jeremy Martin, Laura Harman, Rick Harman; and three great-grandchildren Daniel Carmona, Claire Feldhaus, and Lillie Feldhaus. Heaven is a sweeter place because Carolyn is there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Louisiana Baptist Children≠s Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211. Services will be held in the chapel of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 2 P.M. A private family graveside service will follow. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick≠s Funeral Home on Friday, August 25 from 5-7 P.M. Online messages may be sent to: www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
