As president Ronald Reagan said during one of his presidential debates, “Well, here you go again!” We are celebrating another life and times of an old banker, soldier, and a “called to be fisher of mankind for Jesus Christ, His Savior and Lord of his life”. Called home on 10-1-2023 to his heavenly reward, Calton Calvin Yeager.
Calton was a banker for 45 years at Central Bank of Monroe, Louisiana. A “minute man” with the Louisiana Army National Guard for 25 years, was licensed to preach the Gospel by Central Baptist church in Monroe, Louisiana, so that he could serve as “Chaplain” for his beloved National Guard, which met on the weekends. After retiring from the National Guard as Captain, he pastored at Salem Baptist Church in Eros, Louisiana, Clarks Springs Baptist Church in Cadeville, Louisiana and Peniel Baptist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He was the last of his family, “the baby” of the family of 10 to Luther Eugene “Gene” Yeager and Laura Burson Yeager. His brothers and sisters said that he was “spoiled” but his mama said that he just smelled that way. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Martha Yeager, his parents; brothers Olen, Orvin, Keith (infant twin Kenneth) and Luther O. “Sam”; sisters Viola, Orell, Gitz, and Geneva Yeager.
This old banker, soldier and preacher leaves behind him to cherish his memory his only child Sharon Kay Yeager Wall and her husband Barry Wall; 4 grandsons Shane, Brandon Calton and wife Sonja, Joseph and wife Rachel, Matthew Scott and wife Lawren. He was also blessed with 4 “great” granddaughters Layla, Leanna, Livi Rae, and Brynlee. He also leaves behind several very special nieces and nephews that he loved dearly; and a host of good friends.
Special thanks to his sitter Pam Johnson who had been with him for 2 years and the many sitters through Serenity Care Providers. Some were very special, Mrs. Jackie, Mrs. Erma, Mrs. JoAnn, Mr. Anthony. You all were such a blessing. Thank you Key Key for sending such wonderful caregivers. Thank you Center Well Home Health and the wonderful nurses that visited Daddy with such care. And thank you LA Hospice for the care you gave this past month. We met some very wonderful people.
Also special thanks to his beloved Pastor Jim Wolfe of whom he thought the world.
