Billye Jean Hollis Surratt was born in Linville, Louisiana on February 5, 1928, and peacefully passed on March 21, 2021, at the age of 93. Billye was an inspiring woman who dedicated her life to her Christian faith and her family. She was a charter member of the University Church of Christ and remained active in the church throughout her life, especially enjoying fellowship with the young members. Billye worked for many years as a legal secretary, specializing in the oil and gas industry. While she achieved success in her professional life, her greatest joy came from her children Dennis, Cindy and Bobby. Billye was a lifetime athlete, from playing basketball for Linville High to winning numerous first place medals while competing in the Senior Olympics. She was a familiar face to everyone at Neville football games, remaining a Tiger fan and season ticket holder even after her children and grandchildren had graduated. She was a wonderful grandmother to all of her grandchildren, providing love, guidance, and lifelong memories.
Billye was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mary Hollis, her 1 brother and 5 sisters, her first born son, Billy, and her son-in-law, Gordon Dunaway.
Billye is survived by her son Dennis and his wife Holly, her daughter Cindy Surratt Dunaway, and her son Bobby. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael, Mandi Dunaway Minchew, Casey Surratt Ebey, Michelle Dunaway Burkett and Jarrod, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Michael Surratt, Jarrod Surratt, David Minchew, Josh Ebey, Andy Long, Stanley Read, and honorary pallbearer, Braden Burkett.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M.–2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
