Funeral services for Mr. Billy W. Shields, 78, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 20, 2011 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel West Monroe. Bro. Gordon E. “Skip” Dean and Bro. Bud Curry will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Mr. Shields was born July 18, 1932 in Ruston, LA and passed away January 17, 2011 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Shields was a life long member of Highland Baptist Church. He was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was retired from A&P Grocery after 35 years. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his parents, Pamela and Hubert Shields, three brothers, Thurman, James and Wilton Shields and three sisters, Mary Martin, Odessa Curry Martin and Iva Treadway. Mr. Shields is survived by his wife of 52 years, Willie Jean Shields of West Monroe and one sister, Vonice Howard of Calhoun, LA; 2 sister-in-laws, Mrs. Mary Ann Freeman, Grayson, LA and Mrs. Dot Gibson of Columbia, LA; special care givers, Denise Baker, Beverly Henry, Pam Petty, Shirley Denton and Carolyn Clark. He was the favorite uncle of a host of nieces and nephews that loved and respected him. Pallbearers will be Tim Langston, Jimmy Craighead, Kermit Soileau, Scott Robinson, Bob Anderson and Jonathan Barnes. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Poche, Leo Townsend, Bob Tarver, Don Price and Robbie Robison. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 5PM until 7PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
