Funeral services for Billy Lavan McIntosh, age 76 of Bernice, LA will be Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Pisgah Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Bernice, LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be held at Pisgah Baptist Church Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 P.M.

Billy was born on the kitchen table of his parent’s home in the Mount Patrick community.  He grew up in a tight knit family and enjoyed the company of extended family. He trusted in Jesus for salvation and was baptized as a youth into the fellowship of Mount Patrick church.  As a young adult, Billy completed Barber School in 1964 and served 6 years in the National Guard.  He married Patricia in the Pisgah community in 1967.

Billy became active in serving his community early by coaching in the Little League program in Bernice in 1965.  Coaching baseball was one of his favorite passions especially when he was able to coach his son in the 1980’s and grandsons in the 2000’s.  He was active in the Bernice Business club for many years as well as the BHS Athletic Boosters.

He became a member of Pisgah Baptist Church in 1967 and was ordained a deacon in 1974.  Serving his Lord was one of the biggest desires in his life.  Whether it was going to the hospital to cut hair or shave someone, or bringing over some vegetables from his garden he was truly a full-time servant.  He loved his church and served as Sunday school teacher and church treasurer for many years.

Billy enjoyed squirrel hunting with a dog and shared many hours of quality time walking through the woods with cherished friends and family.  His tomato crops were plenteous and he was always willing to share his peas with others.

He was voted into the Corney Creek Hall of Fame in 2006 and City Barbershop was selected as Business of the Year in 2013.  As far as we know, City Barbershop was the longest continuous business in Union Parish.  It was started by his uncle Clifton McIntosh in the early 1940’s and stretched until 4:30 pm on February 23 of this year when Billy cut his last head of hair just 5 days before his death.  Barber was his occupation, but for Billy it was about serving and encouraging.  There was always a good story being told in the chair and countless hours of fellowship with men in the community. He will be missed deeply by his friends and his family.  We have lost a treasure.  He gave us the best he had.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ada Green McIntosh, Jo Ann Gardner, Betty Jean Harvey, and Shadow Batten.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Weldon McIntosh; son, Michael Weldon McIntosh and wife Tonya; daughter, Allison McIntosh Wilson and husband Todd; grandchildren, Brett Sanders, Karis McIntosh, John Michael McIntosh, Jared Wilson, Chance Batten and fiancé Savannah Shaw, Anna Marie Wilson, and Braydon Wilson; siblings, Faye Walker, Johnny McIntosh and wife Cheri, and Don McIntosh and wife Regina; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Houston, Chris Gray, Phillip Flurry, Ken Reeves, Mike Colvin, and Ronald Madden. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Pisgah Baptist Church, Gene Terrell, Ducky Colvin, and Joey Evans.
